Gambling: The sure way of getting nothing for something.Wilson Mizner
Undisputed, undeniable… Anyone who really knows the game will be in no doubt that in the long run, no one is winning from the ‘war’ against the house. You can win a battle, get an illusory belief that you’ve done it, but in the end, it’s always the house that celebrates.
But there is a doubt in my head: “why do we play?“
Ever since old times, man has shown a natural and instinctive attraction to the game, the first dices were found in China and in the territory corresponding to former Mesopotamia and rise to about 3 000 years before Christ. In ancient Rome, gambling was very popular, gladiators, horse racing, a game of dice, and other games were regarded as the ancestors of modern games such as chess and backgammon.
Even in ancient Greece, the game of nuts or the most classic head and tails were among the most popular, but even in this case, the betting was no less: a great number of paintings have been reported on betting scenes on dogs, birds, or other animals.
The game has therefore become a part of man’s life since it began to develop a certain kind of intelligence, and from that point in time onwards, it was impossible to free it. In history, many attempts were made by various governments to limit gambling, but no one has ever had a great impact, and, in fact, prohibition on the game was in fact, even more negative.
Today, there are still many countries where the game is illegal (almost Islamic countries, for example), but I strongly doubt that there is no game in these nations. You cannot stop the game’s demon!
The hunger for victory
I hate losing more than I even wanna win.Billy Beane – Moneyball (Movie)
Victory, a single word that conceals a great number of emotions.
The only reason you’re here now is that you won your first big challenge when you were still invisible in the world, you were born to win. A desire for victory is a mix of motivation and survival, it forms the basis of everything we do in life, and it is no coincidence that one of the greatest fears of man is precisely the fear of losing, of failing.
Whether it is a person, an important job project, or a simple chess challenge, losing fear, causes despair and sadness.
It is precisely the gap between victory and defeat that makes crypto gambling an extremely attractive activity for man since we put our aim at when we discover the outcome of the latter, we find ourselves in a kind of limbo. On one hand, the enormous happiness resulting from victory, on the other the great disappointment and sadness that only one defeat can bring.
What really leads us to play is precisely the sensations that we feel at that stage that I called ‘limbo’, emotions in small time intervals of time dictated by adrenaline discharges, in other words, our instinctive prompts us to play the risk.
Refusing to lose
Once you understand what I think is the main incentive for us to play – there are others, you can read more about it (https://www.healthyplace.com/addictions/gambling-addiction/psychology-of-gambling-reasons-for-gambling) – we must be careful not to fall into the game’s trap: accepting and sharing emotions and joys from a victory is a simple and automatic process for most people, you cannot say the same when loosing.
Sharing a defeat with others, on the contrary, is something that rarely happens, after failure, people tend to isolate themselves, to hide from the outside world for fear of being judged, and this often leads to a vicious circle from which it is difficult to escape. Our society in fact leads us to refuse bankruptcy, as I said earlier, to win is survival, which is why we categorically reject the losers, and so the EUR 10 played can easily become 100, 500, 1000…
How to avoid getting into the trap?
Do I have to stop playing? Absolutely NO!

By pursuing the analogy between games and life, stopping playing as far as I am concerned is the worst solution you can take. Remember all the time, you were born to win, you really want to spend your life watching the others play the game? Each of us is entitled and deserves the victory.
After the 2016 America Cup ending, where Argentina’s favorite was defeated by Chile, Lionel Messi (one of the biggest footballers ever) at the age of only 29, announced its withdrawal from the country. In that match, Messi missed a penalty, and it was also the fourth consecutive final that couldn’t win with his national jersey. He rejected the failure and humiliation received so far as much as to be self-excluded from something he loved, even a champion like him was the victim of the ‘trap of the game’. A few months later, he rethought his choice and went back to play.
By deciding to play the game you put yourself under the scrutiny of risking failure, the difference is the way in which you deal with the loss, which is an indispensable part of your path to victory, to success. So what you need is a change of mentality: embrace failure and the losers, not be afraid to communicate them to people, they will be able to help you! And more importantly, not be afraid to play, because the game itself is life.
- As far as I am concerned, being a “successful gambler” can only mean one thing: to play simply for pleasure or to satisfy your risk appetite, conscious of the fact that no one beats, in the long run, the house, so to play without ever ‘trapped’. That is, in my view, the only way to succeed in gambling.
- It must be said that there are different types of games, in this article, I am referring to real crypto casino gambling games, those where the house has a mathematical advantage that cannot be deceived in any way (e.g. bitcoin roulette, scratch cards, lotteries, crypto slot machines … )
And you? What do you think about the game? Let me know if you share my thoughts or if you think otherwise, don’t watch, play! Roll the dices in the right place.
