Underworld

Hitting 3 Skull scatters in the base game activates the Underworld feature. The feature starts with 10 free spins and five reel multiplier numbers (starting from 0) displayed below each reel. If a winning cluster hits, the value on the reel meter increases in equivalence to the frequency of the winning symbols on that specific reel. Anubis multiplier modifier might also land on a reel and multiply its reel number by x2 to x10.

However, these accumulated reel multiplier values remain inactive unless a green Orb symbol lands on that reel to activate it. Each time it happens for a reel, you win 3 extra free spins.

Judgment

Landing 4 Skull scatter symbols in the main game activates the Judgment feature with 3 respins. The feature starts with reel multipliers above each reel. Only multipliers, special symbols, and blocks appear throughout this feature. The special symbols are:

Epic Skull: increments the reel multipliers of all reels by up to x100

Furthermore, Ice Blocks and Crusher Blocks might also appear during the Judgment bonus. If an Ice Block lands, it gets substituted by a multiplier block carrying a value similar to its reel multiplier. Crusher Block crushes all the blocks in its path until it reaches the bottom of the grid. There, it gains a multiplier value, a collected total of all multipliers it crushed. Note that for every new multiplier, Ice or Crusher block, the number of respins reset to 3.

Theme, Design, and Sound

The Egyptian-themed slot opens with two Anubises standing guard to the reels on each side. What distinguishes them is the color of their eyes. The pitch dark and smoky setting is a chilling invocation of the underworld where Anubis measures the deeds of the deceased to decide their fate. With all such wrath and temper, it doesn’t look like Anubis goes easy on anyone. And if you find the visuals for the base game dark enough, then the bonus rounds are a notch higher, where the Hell’s Furnace, Grim Reapers, and gruesome beasts wait for you.

The grid style is minimalistic and looks inspired by ELK slots. But as with Mayan Stackways, both Anubis characters get cut out of the screen when playing in a mobile device or portrait mode. Hacksaw found the way to enter an otherwise cluttered Egyptian-themed slot market. It has done so by presenting a game that not many would conceive of. The slot's dark mythology is surely an eye-catcher, but so are the slot specs and payouts. Hacksaw has evened out the slot’s base game and bonus rounds by including soul orbs in the main game. And with the help of cascading reels, players might land multiple wins from a single spin, which is always great. As for the features, even though they carry great potential, more often than not, they couldn’t yield anything significant. However, one of our Underworld bonus feature segments fetched us above 410x the stake, which is okayish. The worst part was triggering reel multipliers but not being able to use it because green Orbs didn’t show up to activate that reel. But the show's star was the Judgment bonus, where we managed to rake in a whopping 7,100x the stake. This made us repeatedly return to the special feature, but we couldn’t come near that feat.
